  • Reliance Moves Bombay High Court To Restrain Release Of Punjabi Movie Carry On Jatta 4

Reliance Industries Ltd. has moved the Bombay High Court, seeking to restrain the release of Punjabi film Carry On Jatta 4 over a contractual dispute. On Friday, the court permitted the company to cure defects in its plaint and approach the Vacation Court.

The movie is slated for release on June 26, 2026.

Justice Abhay Ahuja passed the order after objections were raised by the defendants over the maintainability of Reliance's commercial suit.

The dispute arises out of a tripartite contractual arrangement involving Reliance, Panorama Studios International Ltd., and Humble Motion Pictures.

Senior advocate Ashish Kamat, appearing for Panorama Studios International Ltd, submitted that Reliance's plaint was not maintainable for non-compliance with procedural requirements relating to verification of pleadings in commercial disputes.

Senior advocate Venkatesh Dhond, appearing for Reliance, submitted that the interim application had been moved because of an apprehension that the defendant may create third-party rights. When Kamat said third-party rights had already been created, Dhond sought a status quo order.

Kamat opposed the request. Dhond thereafter sought time to cure defects in the plaint and interim application, and also sought liberty to move the Vacation Court.

After hearing both sides, the court granted Reliance leave to cure the defects and permitted it to move the Vacation Court, while directing advance notice to the other side.

The order records that the rival film is scheduled for release on June 26, 2026.

The matter was heard by Justice Ahuja on Thursday after being kept back in the morning session as counsel for the defendant was appearing in another court.
