The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice on a plea filed by Unnati Fortune Holdings Ltd. (UFHL) promoter and builder Anil Mithas challenging the rejection of his bail application in a money laundering case involving the alleged diversion of ₹126.30 crore collected from homebuyers for the company's Aranya project.
On September 16, 2026, the Allahabad High Court rejected builder Anil Mithas's bail application, observing that he was accused of diverting ₹126.30 crore collected from homebuyers, a diversion which was supported by an independent audit report.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana issued notice and agreed to hear the case on merits.
The case arose from allegations that Anil Mithas diverted funds collected from homebuyers by Unnati Fortune Holdings Ltd. for its Aranya project, prompting money laundering proceedings by the Enforcement Directorate.
ED alleged that ₹126.30 crore was diverted through investments, loans and advances to associate companies, while an independent audit identified a diversion of ₹107 crore. Before the High Court, Mithas argued that the funds were used for business purposes, that he had cooperated with investigators and that his prolonged incarceration justified bail.
The Allahabad High Court rejected Mithas' bail application, holding that the alleged diversion, audit findings and delays in the trial attributable to the applicant's counsel weighed against granting relief. The Court directed the trial court to decide the case expeditiously without unnecessary adjournments, clarifying that its observations would not affect the merits of the trial.
