With this, the total seizures has crossed ₹15,700 Crore
The Directorate of Enforcement's Special Task Force has provisionally attached industrialist Anil Ambani's Pali Hill residence 'Abode', valued at Rs 3,716.83 crore, in connection with its money laundering probe into alleged bank fraud by Reliance Communications Ltd. With this latest action, the cumulative value of properties attached in the group has crossed Rs 15,700 crore.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the agency has said that the attachment has been made under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The agency said a portion of the same property, worth Rs 473.17 crore, had been attached earlier.
The probe stems from an FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation invoking provisions relating to criminal conspiracy, cheating and criminal breach of trust under the IPC, along with offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The FIR names RCOM, Ambani and others.
According to the ED, RCOM and its group entities availed loans from domestic and foreign lenders, of which Rs 40,185 crore remains outstanding. The agency has alleged that the Pali Hill property was aggregated into RiseE Trust, described as a private family trust of members of the Ambani family. It claims the restructuring was intended to preserve family wealth and shield the asset from personal guarantees extended by Ambani to banks, many of whose loans later turned non-performing assets.
Meanwhile, the apex court is hearing a writ petition filed by former bureaucrat EAS Sarma seeking a court-monitored investigation into the alleged loan fraud by companies of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group. The petition contends that the ongoing investigation by the CBI and ED is narrow and does not adequately examine the role of bank officials, despite forensic audit findings flagging alleged diversion of funds.
In that case, Ambani has filed an affidavit undertaking that he will not leave India without prior permission of the Supreme Court and will cooperate fully with the ED and CBI investigations. He has stated that he has not travelled abroad since July 2025 and has no present intention to do so.
