Delhi High Court To Order Takedown Of Content Infringing Yuvraj Singh's Personality Rights

The Delhi High Court has indicated it will pass an interim order directing takedown of content infringing cricketer Yuvraj Singh's personality rights, while giving uploaders 48 hours to remove the material before intermediaries are asked to step in.
Justice Jyoti Singh was hearing a suit filed by Yuvraj Singh on Wednesday seeking protection of his personality rights.
Counsel for the cricketer took the Court through a list of infringing links as they stood the previous day, stating that two of them had already been taken down. He submitted that the list included links of parties selling merchandise using Singh's personality attributes without his consent, for monetary gains.
Among the links flagged was a Reddit post alleging that Singh had used objectionable language against women, which had drawn derogatory comments against the cricketer.
Counsel for Reddit opposed relief on this link, arguing that the post was two years old and that the appropriate remedy lay in defamation, not a suit for protection of personality rights.
Singh's counsel responded that fresh comments were still being posted on the thread. The Court, however, noted that the post itself was two years old and that no transcripts of the comments had been placed on record.
On the broader relief sought, the court laid out the mechanism it intended to follow.
"Uploaders have some responsibility," the judge remarked, adding that uploaders would first be given 48 hours to remove infringing content. If they failed to comply, Singh would be permitted to approach the intermediaries concerned, who would then be required to take down the content within 36 hours.
The Court clarified that its present order would cover only the URLs forming part of the suit.
Justice Singh added that she is going to order takedown of urls which are part of the suit and then Singh can file application later for future links. I will extend the injunction if there is something infringing, the Court said.
The court registered the plaint as a suit and issued notice in the interim injunction application, directing the intermediaries to file their replies.
A compliance affidavit is to be filed within three weeks.
The matter will next be listed on November 30, 2026.
