  • Delhi High Court Directs Amitabh Bachchan To Personally Appear If Settlement Fails In Personality Rights Suit

He must appear in person only if he wishes to pursue the suit further.

The Delhi High Court has given actor Amitabh Bachchan time to formalise a settlement reached with some defendants in his personality rights suit.

Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav listed the matter for November 16, 2026 and said that if the settlement fails or is incomplete, Bachchan must appear in person if he wants to pursue any claim.

Bachchan sued Rajat Nagi and others for a permanent injunction to protect his personality rights.

On November 25, 2022, the Court granted an ex parte ad interim injunction in his favour. During the case, the parties explored mediation, and the order records that an amicable settlement has been reached “qua some of the defendants”.

It could not be signed because of “logistical issues on the part of the plaintiff”.

Bachchan's counsel asked for time to complete the formalities and place the settlement agreement on record, and the Court granted it.

The Court added that if the settlement is incomplete or does not materialize, Bachchan must be personally present on the next date if he wishes to pursue any claim or issue.

The court said Bachchan must appear in person so it can question him about the case and clarify matters directly with him if he wishes to pursue the suit.
