  • Madras High Court Restrains Unauthorised Broadcast Of Upcoming Varun Dhawan Film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai

The Madras High Court has restrained unauthorised broadcast of Tips Films' upcoming Varun Dhawan-starrer Hindi film 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai' after the company apprehended copyright infringement ahead of its May 22 release.

Justice P.B. Balaji passed the ruling on May 6.

The production company told the Court that it holds CBFC certificates for the film's teaser and its audio-visual songs dated April 2 and April 16. With the film set to release on May 22, the company said it feared that the respondents were attempting to broadcast the movie without a proper licence. It also said it had not granted any licence to them except for theatrical rights.

The Court said Tips Films had made out a prima facie case and observed that refusing interim relief would cause the company “serious and irreparable hardship, including financial losses.”

It also found that the balance of convenience was in favour of Tips Films and restrained the respondents from infringing the company's copyright pending further hearing.

The Court issued notice to the respondents and will hear the matter next on June 11, 2026
