  • Madras High Court Restrains Illegal Broadcast Of Bollywood Film Dhurandhar: The Revenge Ahead Of Release

The Madras High Court has protected the streaming rights of Reliance Industries Limited (Jio Studios), granting an interim injunction against dozens of internet service providers and cable operators to prevent the unlawful broadcast of the film 'Dhurandhar The Revenge'.

On March 18, 2026, Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy held that such preventive measures are necessary to avoid irreversible injury to the creators just before the movie's scheduled theatrical release.

Dhurandhar The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar, releases in theaters worldwide tomorrow, on March 19, 2026.

In matters of this nature, it is likely that irreversible injury will occur unless ad interim injunction is granted to restrain unlawful broadcast. At the same time, it is possible that the legitimate business interest of one or more respondents may be affected. Therefore, the plaintiff is required to indemnify in respect thereof,” the court remarked.

The commercial suit was filed by Reliance Industries Limited and its media division Jio Studios alleging apprehended copyright infringement and seeking anti-piracy directions against intermediaries including ISPs and cable operators

The producers relied on the CBFC certificate showing them as the producer of the cinematographic film to establish ownership.

The court granted the injunction subject to indemnity and directed that the order will remain in force until April 15, 2026, the next date of hearing.
