The Madras High Court recently estrained apprehended infringement of copyright in the film Ek Din, slated for release today, by granting an ad-interim injunction in a suit filed by Aamir Khan Productions Pvt Ltd.
Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy passed the order noting that the film was scheduled to release on May 1, 2026 (today).
The Court observed that in matters of this nature, “irreversible injury” is likely to occur unless unlawful broadcast is prevented.
Ek Din is a Hindi romantic drama produced by Aamir Khan Productions. Directed by Sunil Pandey, the film stars Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi in lead roles.
The legal action is directed against 29 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and 4 Cable TV operators arrayed as respondents in the suit. Major telecom companies named include BSNL, MTNL, Bharti Airtel, Tata Communications, Vodafone India and Reliance Jio Infocomm. Cable operators such as Jak Communications and Thamizhaga Cable TV Communication Pvt Ltd are also among the respondents.
While granting the injunction, the Court acknowledged the “expansive nature of the relief claimed,” noting that such orders could potentially affect the legitimate business interests of the service providers. It therefore directed the plaintiff to indemnify the respondents in that regard.
The ad-interim injunction will remain in force until June 22, 2026, the next date of hearing.
