The Delhi High Court on Wednesday protected Amazon's upcoming film “Nayyi Naveli” against piracy, directing that it not be broadcast or streamed without authorisation by rogue websites once it is released.
Justice Vikas Mahajan passed the directions on a suit by Amazon Seller Services Private Limited against cinemalux.baby and other such rogue websites and their operators.
Amazon told the court it feared the film would be pirated and put online soon after release.
The horror-comedy, directed by Balaji Mohan and starring Yami Gautam, is set for a pan-India theatrical release on October 16, 2026. Its official trailer was released on YouTube on September 30, 2026.
Amazon said it is the exclusive first owner and distributor of the film. It said it commissioned Colour Yellow Media Entertainment Private Limited to develop and produce the film. The film is therefore a “work made for hire,” so all rights in it passed to Amazon as soon as it was completed. Amazon said it has signed agreements with the production company to this effect.
On this basis, Amazon argued that it is the producer and owner of the copyright in the film. It said any posting, streaming, marketing or sharing of the film without its permission, or helping others to do so, on the internet or mobile platforms, would clearly violate its copyright. It also placed before the court a list of similar orders passed in earlier piracy cases.
The court accepted Amazon's case for protection and directed that the film not be made available to the public without Amazon's authorisation by the websites named in the suit or by others acting in a similar way.
