Competition Commission of India (CCI) Member Anil Agrawal has resigned from office, demitting his post on July 14, 2026.
Announcing his resignation in a LinkedIn post, Agrawal wrote, "Having resigned as Member of the Competition Commission of India, I demitted office on 14 July 2026."
Thanking the Government of India for the opportunity to serve on the Commission, Agrawal described his tenure at the CCI as a "valuable phase" of his public service career.
"It has been a privilege to be associated with this important institution, which plays a vital role in promoting fair competition, protecting consumer welfare, and supporting innovation-led growth in the Indian economy," he wrote.
Agrawal said his nearly three-year tenure at the Commission exposed him to diverse areas, including policing, governance, technology, startup ecosystem development, digital commerce, and competition regulation.
According to him, these experiences reinforced his belief that strong public institutions founded on fairness and transparency are essential to India's growth.
"As this phase draws to a close, I carry with me deep gratitude and a renewed commitment to contributing meaningfully to public policy, technology, markets, innovation, entrepreneurship, and institution building," he said.
Agrawal, a 1988-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, joined the Competition Commission of India as a Member in September 2023 after retiring as Director General of Police in April that year.
During his career, he served as Additional Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), where he handled initiatives including Startup India, Make in India, e-commerce, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for white goods and the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). He is also credited with leading the institutionalisation of the Startup India programme.
The central government is yet to announce his successor.
