Delhi HC Directs Reddit To Disclose Details Of Anonymous User Behind Samsung Galaxy S26 'Blast In The Box' Post
The Delhi High Court has directed Reddit to furnish the available particulars of the anonymous account behind a post titled "Samsung Galaxy S26 blast in the box" within three days. The court did not pass any immediate direction for removal of the post.
Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani was hearing Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.'s application seeking an interim injunction against an account operating as "Techtalkwithmalik", besides directions to Reddit and Instagram to take down posts alleging that Samsung products, including the Galaxy S26, had caught fire or exploded.
"Since Mr. Anand has expressed that they are unaware of who defendant No. 1 really is, defendant No.2 is directed to furnish to learned counsel for the plaintiffs the particulars of defendant No.1 - M/s Techtalkwithmalik - as may be available with them, within 03 days.", the court ordered.
Counsel for Samsung submitted that a Galaxy S26 purchased by Harshit Bhardwaj was alleged to have caught fire. According to Samsung, its service centre examined the phone and found that the battery had been pierced with a sharp object, leading to a short circuit and the battery burning.
Anand clarified that the proceedings were not concerned with the customer's grievance. Instead, Samsung challenged a Reddit post titled "Samsung Galaxy S26 blast in the box," contending that the title was false because there had been no blast and the incident had not occurred while the phone was inside its box.
He also referred to comments on the Reddit post questioning how the box could have remained undamaged if there had been a blast. Samsung submitted that its principal grievance was against the anonymous account operating as "Techtalkwithmalik", whose identity was unknown.
Appearing for Reddit, Advocate Ankit Parhar submitted that, as a matter of legal principle, an order directing removal of the post could only be passed after hearing the account holder.
After hearing both sides, the court directed Reddit to provide whatever particulars of the "Techtalkwithmalik" account were available with it to Samsung's counsel within three days.
