Dr Sadanand Date Takes Charge As SEBI Executive Director, Will Oversee Investigations Department

Dr. Sadanand Date, a 2007-batch IPS officer of the Uttarakhand cadre, took charge as Executive Director of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in Mumbai on March 4, 2026, and will oversee the investigations department, the regulator said in a press release dated March 13.

Date was earlier on central deputation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), where he served in various capacities, including as SP ACB/BSFC, and headed the Economic Offences Branch, Special Crime Branch, Special Task Branch and Anti-Corruption Branch at CBI Mumbai.

He has also held several leadership roles in the Uttarakhand Police and served as SP/Senior Superintendent of Police in Uttarkashi, Nainital, Haridwar, Udhamsingh Nagar and Dehradun. He also briefly served as IG Headquarters/Director Traffic in the state police before joining SEBI.

A medical graduate, Date holds an MBBS degree from Grant Medical College & JJ Group of Hospitals, Mumbai. He also holds a Master's Degree in Police Management from Osmania University and degrees of MA (Economics), LLB and LLM from Mumbai University. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner and a recipient of the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
