Madras High Court Grants Injunction Against Piracy Of Vijay Deverakonda's Ranaballi
The Madras High Court on Thursday granted an interim injunction to Mythri Movie Makers, producer of Ranaballi, to restrain the illegal recording, reproduction, and distribution of the film, which is being released in theatres today, October 16, 2026.
The Telugu-language period action drama stars Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna.
Justice P.B. Balaji passed the order on October 15, after the producer approached the court apprehending that the film could be illegally recorded and circulated.
The proceedings name telecom companies and internet service providers, including BSNL, MTNL, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, along with cable operators such as Action Lane. Online platforms including X Corp, YouTube, Google, Facebook India, Meta Platforms and Telegram have also been named. The case also covers unidentified persons described as “Ashok Kumar John Doe”.
The court recorded Mythri's apprehension that the respondents might engage in illegal recording, reproduction and distribution of the film, causing irreparable loss and hardship to the producer.
Mythri also asserted that it had not assigned or licensed any of the respondents to telecast the film on any website.
“I am satisfied that the applicant has made out a prima facie case for grant of interim injunction as prayed for,” Justice Balaji observed.
The court directed that notice be issued to the respondents, returnable by November 11, 2026. It also permitted private notice.
